Mount Arabi, Yecla, Spain
Autorretrato from the 2014 vintage. Old-vine Monastrell from a 0.8ha parcel of ungrafted vines on their original rootstock. Vines on gravel, with extremely low yields, requiring meticulous care and attention. 15 day maceration with 3 months slow fermentation in ancient amphoras. Well over a year aging in old barrels. Monastrell which exemplifies this project as a whole. Erik’s ability to produce singular and highly detailed expressions from this hostile environment is unrivaled. Floral with mineral notes. All elements have had a chance to come together in a harmonious way. A fragrant, silky and extremely elegant presentation of Mourvèdre. More detailed than most examples we've come across in France. Once again, this parcel continues to show us Mourvèdre with unmatched character. Cooling herbal scents with fresh fruit, and well integrated tannins/ acid. Pure class, with beautiful nuance. A rare jewel from deep in the L.R. cellar.
