Laboratorio Rupestre - Erik & Hal Rosdahl
Mount Arabi, Yecla, Spain
Old vine Monastrell (Mourvèdre) from the original Los Cerrillares plot Erik worked between 2012 to 2018. A windy parcel on gravel bedrock, with 100-year-old vines, on their original rootstock. Macerated whole bunch in amphora and 1 year aging in barrel. The oldest example of Bujes that we’ve had the chance to taste. Typically the richest and most full wine in the Laboratorio Rupestre line up, often with considerable residual sugars and alcohol. Here, we see the fruit develop towards Erik’s signature, hyper-fragrant, and expressive style. All while maintaining ripeness, big tannin, and acid. Jump out of the glass alpine aromas, with blackberries, mint, and echinacea. The palate is significantly drier than we’ve come to expect from this wine. Like Autorretrato from this same vintage, it's elegant and poised, having had some time now in bottle to come together. A beautiful balance among all elements, and a wine of world class expression. Another canon from Erik & Hal!
