Lulu 2021

Lulu is Patrick and Justine’s charming and beloved cuvée of 100% Gamay d’Auvergne. From some of their oldest vines, over 80 years-old, located on the slopes above the commune of Corent, some 10 minutes south of Saint-Georges-sur-Allier. Planted on mixed basalt soils, the yields are low and the harvest is meticulous. Vinified whole bunch with semi-carbonic maceration for one week, gentle pressing of the grapes, and a mix of aging vessels for one year, starting out in old barrels and finally transitioning to sandstone amphora before bottling. Lulu is the beautiful and pure expression of this unique type of Gamay from Auvergne. Sweet and smoky fruit on the nose with salt and rocky minerality. Often drank too young because of its perception as Gamay, this is a wine that will only get better with time. Complex nose of game, fruit and bitter herbs.
