Orange Mauzanic 2022

A benchmark in the macerated category and the example to follow when it comes to Mauzac. Jean-Louis’ coveted Orange Mauzanic comes from old vine Mauzac, over 80 years, from Campagne-sur-Aude in Limoux, high up on the mountainside overlooking the valley. This solo site planted with vines on a 10+ha property, sits on the only limestone outcropping. The property is home to a herd of over 100 sheep that roam freely, and the new owner has set up a business producing raw sheep's cheese on site. A wine that’s about texture and depth. 15 days of maceration whole cluster and 10 months aging on lees in sandstone amphora. The relatively simplistic Mauzac takes on a whole new dimension with its time on skins. Pithy, tropical fruit, with deep, smokey, phenolic complexity. In the mouth there's plenty of salty, tannic structure.
