Domaine Gérard Schueller et Fils - Bruno & Elena Schueller
Husseren-les-Châteaux, Alsace, France
Pinot Gris from one parcel in Husseren-les-Châteaux, technically within the commune of Eguisheim. Opposed to being aged longer in barrels, “Réserve” denotes grapes from parcels containing a higher proportion of clay than limestone, and as such Bruno feels they need to be held longer before drinking with their fuller, more fruit driven expressions. From vines over 40 years-old, the Pinot Gris is hard pressed and aged in foudres for just over a year. A dense and weighty expression with tropical fruits, and a sense of late harvest grapes, leading to bruised fruit notes. Candied quality in the mouth with considerable residual sugars. Brunt pineapple, and golden pears. It’s persistent with a long finish and harmonious acid.
