Domaine Gérard Schueller et Fils - Bruno & Elena Schueller
Husseren-les-Châteaux, Alsace, France
Riesling from these fine limestone soils, shines with its hyper-mineral intensity. A gorgeous and memorable wine among the Schueller lineup. Lieu-Dit Bildstoecklé with younger vines planted in this parcel in 1990, faces north on an isolated hillside outside of Obermorschwihr. Grand Cru in the eyes of Bruno. The area was never delimited as Grand Cru during the time boundaries were being drawn as there were only fruit growers located here and few established and reputable winemakers to lobby the AOC for its inclusion. Today it is highly sought after by many large producers in Alsace for its distinct expression of terroir. Slow direct pressing of the grapes with fermentation and élevage in foudre for over a year before bottling. Incredible tension in the wine with all the hallmarks of limestone Riesling. Petrol, with crisp citrus and orchard fruit. Shimmering texture in the mouth with just a small slice of residual sugars to broaden the wine. Heart-racing acidity with drawn out salinity on the finish.
