Es D'aqui - Jean-Louis Pinto
Moulin-Neuf, Ariège, France
A top offering from Jean-Louis, back only for the second time. 50/50 Grenache and Alicante Bouschet, from old vines on limestone rich soils near Carcassonne in the Languedoc. Macerated together whole-cluster for 10 months before pressing off. Aged in sandstone amphora for a year, and then an additional 2 years in bottle before release. Sacré Greall! is generally released around 4 years after production. Fresher than former iterations as Jean-Louis has moved élevage to amphora from previously being in old barrels. This keeps the brightness and acid there, alongside the density and depth. Black fruit and ink, with iron qualities, as well as plenty of earth and bold rustic tannins. Intense character with a lively and vibrant presentation on the palate. Bright and broad acid that’s framed by the signature dose of salinity, and big chalky tannins, drawn out on the finish.
