Pinot Noir from several clones planted in the Tonimbuk site, an extremely isolated vineyard in the Bunyip state park, surrounded by thousands of acres of native forest. Pinot clones include: 777, D27, 114, 115, D5V12, MV6, and Pommard. The vines here are are old at 43 years, and sit on a complex mix of volcanic soils mixed with granite outcrops. The vineyard being located in the middle of a protected state park, the site is in constant competition with nature and often the majority of fruit is consumed by wildlife. The fruit was all hand destemmed, and not disturbed for 14 days, after which it was pressed out into stainless where it was left on gross lees until direct bottling from the tank. Hyper fresh and fragrant with loads of scrubby herbs and purple fruits. Volcanic soils are evident in the wine providing a mineral edge and the telltale salinity that reminds us very much of the Pinot Noir of Auvergne.
